FCEA Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an objective and comprehensive evaluation of an individual’s ability to function. It assists employers, physicians, payers, and attorneys in determining safe functional levels for an individual to return to work and provide objective information for the development of an appropriate plan of care or case closure. It includes tests of strength and flexibility and of ability to perform work activities such as Bending, Squatting, Lifting, Pushing, Pulling, Carrying and other similar activities.

Our FCE consists of a concise cover letter completed within 24-48 hours which addresses:

  • • Physical Demand Classification and clearly noted functional capabilities based on the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) Manual.
  • • Behavioral Profile which determines if pain and disability are out of proportion to the impairment and movement patterns. Includes symptom exaggeration, non-organic signs, and test validity.
  • • Validity Profile that determines if a patient has exerted maximum effort and if the FCE results are valid and can and should be used to determine the patient’s accurate and objective return to work ability.
  • • Vocational Considerations match the test results with the patient’s job description and states whether the patient qualifies to return to that specific job.
  • • Recommendations which may include additional treatment, job analysis, further testing, work conditioning/hardening, and/or return to work with modifications and ergonomic changes.
