Spinal Procedures

The Most Advanced and Innovative Procedures Available

Dr. Lestini has been a pioneer in the healing of the spine, using innovative treatments and state-of-the-art equipment to treat both acute and chronic back pain. Some of the most up-to-date procedures available in spinal surgery that Dr. Lestini performs are detailed below. Click on each procedure to learn more.

X-STOP® IPD® Interspinous Process Decompression (IPD®) System

This procedure addresses lumbar spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal and a new therapy that is available, the X-STOP® IPD® Procedure, uses a titanium metal implant designed to fit between the spinous processes of the vertebrae in your lower back. The X-STOP® IPD® Procedure can potentially offer patients several benefits compared to traditional surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis. Ask Dr. Lestini if this new procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Minimally Invasive Spinal Fusion - AxiaLIF® Procedure

AxiaLIF® stands for Axial Lumbar Interbody Fusion - a new, alternative approach to traditional fusion procedures. During the AxiaLIF® Procedure, Dr. Lestini accesses your low back through a 1-inch incision next to your tailbone. The center of the diseased disc is removed, and bone growth material is inserted in its place. This material helps stimulate bone growth over time in order to “fuse.” The AxiaLIF® implant is inserted to distract the two vertebrae, meaning that any height lost from Degenerative Disc Disease is restored to its original, healthy disc height. Ask Dr. Lestini if this new procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Minimally Invasive Spinal Fusion - CD Horizon® Sextant™ System

Minimally Invasive Spinal fusion allows Dr. Lestini to insert the implants into the posterior (back) side of the spine without the major muscle and tissue disruption necessary for traditional fusion surgeries. Because the implant placement is minimally invasive, the recovery time for procedures such as the CD Horizon® Sextant™ System is usually much less than required for traditional spinal fusion surgery. Ask Dr. Lestini if this procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Artificial Disc Replacement

This newest type of spine surgery allows Dr. Lestini to replace damaged discs, while preserving patient’s back motion, a benefit earlier forms of spine surgery have been unable to provide. Ask Dr. Lestini if this procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Dynamic Stabilization

Dynamic Stabilization is a new concept in the treatment of lower back and leg pain. One such example is the Dynesys® system which combines the surgical approach of traditional fusion with the philosophy of dynamic stabilization, using flexible materials to stabilize the spine while preserving anatomical structures. Ask Dr. Lestini if this procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Kyphoplasty/Vertebroplasty

Balloon kyphoplasty is used on patients who suffer from vertebral compression fractures, a potential side effect of osteoporosis. The procedure stabilizes the fracture and straightens the spine, often providing patients with rapid pain relief. Ask Dr. Lestini if this procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Spinal Cord Stimulation

Precision™ is the first long-lasting, rechargeable Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) system. It is small, about half the size of other SCS systems, and offers greater comfort and convenience. Precision™ is the only SCS system that uses current steering technology, which allows Dr. Lestini to better control your pain. Also, Precision™ can cover more than one pain area at the same time. Ask Dr. Lestini if this procedure is a consideration for you, and learn more about it here.

Other Procedures Performed By Dr. Lestini:

Dr. Lestini also commonly performs the procedures below. If you have any further questions regarding these or any procedure detailed on this page, make an appointment with Dr. Lestini to discuss your options.

Microscopic/Endoscopic Discectomy

Patients suffering from ruptured discs can benefit greatly from this minimally-invasive procedure that uses a video camera to guild the removal of disc fragments while minimizing trauma.

Spine Fusion: Cage Technology

Cage technology is revolutionizing the approach to spinal fusion surgery. Cage-like structures are used to provide stability near the affected area so that unstable discs can be replaced. Recovery time for patients is greatly reduced.

IDET

Candidates for IDET are patients with degenerative discs or torn cartilage. It is an outpatient procedure that uses a thermal catheter to patch the affected area, and only takes approximately 15 minutes.
