"I can’t believe it took me so long to decide to have surgery. Although realizing the need to try a conservative route first, I now feel a lot of money was wasted on chiropractors, medicine and injections. I continued to be active, but finally decided to “bite the bullet” and try surgery when nothing else seemed to help. No longer were the things I liked to do enjoyable because of back pain. My personality became very impatient and snappish.

After seeing two doctors I did not feel comfortable with, I found Dr. Lestini. I told him I thought I wanted to have surgery. After looking at my x-rays, he agreed surgery could help although there were no guarantees. He explained in detail all about the fusion process. The rod and screw stuff scared me. He told me he really needed to hear me say I wanted to have surgery, not that I thought I wanted to have surgery.
Afraid the surgery might not go well, I went on to tell him other than back pain, I was healthy and had a really good life and I didn’t want to chance messing it up. In a very kind and gentle voice, Dr. Lestini looked me straight in the eyes and asked me if I really indeed had a good life. That question definitely helped me decide to have the surgery.
Dr. Lestini and his nurse had a prayer with my husband and me before the operation. All went well during the surgery. I was faithful during my recovery doing the walking, exercises, and physical therapy. It takes a while and you are not going to end up with the back you had when you were a teenager. However, now my constant pain is gone. I can again do and enjoy all the things I love to do."
