"While living in Maryland, I had suffered for many years with lower back pain. When I relocated to NC, I realized that I needed to do something about the pain because it had started to affect my “quality of life.” I researched a variety of clinics and physicians and came to the conclusion that Dr. Lestini at Triangle Spine and Back Care was the one I wanted addressing my problem. I started treatment that consisted of therapy, medication as necessary and informative visits where I learned a lot about my condition, options and prognosis.
In the beginning I was adamant about not having surgery, but as time progressed and my ability to do the things I enjoyed (i.e. gardening, decorating, playing with my grandchildren) became more limited – I began to look at surgery differently.
Before I committed to entertaining the thought more seriously, I did go for injections – they did not have the desired effect, so I made an appointment with Dr. Lestini to discuss surgery. He was very patient, informative and supportive. He answered all my questions and provided me with written material on the procedure, products, the hospital, and the time frame. I had everything I needed to make an informed decision.
On the day of surgery, my daughter, son and my sisters were with me. They met Dr. Lestini and were very impressed with his manner – before we went into surgery, he asked if we wanted to pray. This so surprised us and immediately filled us with such peace of mind as he led us in prayer asking God to guide his hands through the operation. This was the most remarkable moment for my daughter who had been significantly stressed about my surgery.
The surgery took 6 hours. In the recovery room, Dr. Lestini explained that the surgery had been a success, and that he had accomplished all that he had planned on doing. He explained that it was OK for me to move – nothing would break and I couldn’t damage anything. Well, that was all I needed to hear. I was able to move from one bed to another, do what the nurses told me to, and I was out of the hospital in three days.
At home I worked through the postoperative pain, and as I worked through it, I started walking, physical therapy, and an eventual return to work.
Every day I am grateful that I chose Dr. Lestini – my recovery has been remarkable. I have regained ALL of my mobility and range of motion. I garden, wrestle with my grandchildren, clean the house, stand straight, go swimming and generally have regained my life. I am blessed.
