"In my 30's I became an avid tennis player and golfer. After going strong for about thirteen years, my back started giving me problems. I fought my degenerative disk disease for two years. In that time, I visited four well known doctors in the area. The MRI results were easy to read. My lower two disks were pretty much gone. The doctors all suggested a two level fusion.

Dr. Lestini prolonged this surgery by giving me every chance to try other alternatives. I tried physical therapy, epidural injections and rest. He gently made me come to an understanding that my life was changing.

The year before my surgery, I felt withdrawn. I could no longer play golf or tennis. At the age of 44, I was simply too young for this to be happening to me.

I made the decision to have the surgery when it became hard to walk around my neighborhood. Dr. Lestini was the only one I felt comfortable with and he came highly recommended.

It was a long winter of walking, walking, and walking some more. After six weeks of physical therapy, I treated myself to Pilates classes.

Six months after the surgery, I started swinging a golf club again. At the end of June 2006, 9 months after the surgery, I won the Women's Club Championship at my Country Club. Yes, I still have bad days because I forget that I have two rods, two cages and six screws in my back, but my personality is back and I feel feisty again. My tennis days are over, but I've replaced them with cycling classes. Life is good again, and Dr. Lestini and God share the credit for my return to an active life."
