"I was hurt on the job in 1987 which resulted in a herniated disc. I had my first surgery in 1988. Complications arose, and in 1989 I had to have a three level fusion with plates and screws. My hardware was removed in 1991. I had to see a pain specialist to receive trigger point injections and a series of Caudal Epidurals.
But as the years passed, every treatment only worked temporarily. The next step was an implant under my skin to help control my pain. The last resort was a morphine pump. I got hurt at the age of 24 and now at 41, I was not even considering that option!
Around September of 2005 I started to lose the feelings in the toes of my right foot. Epidurals were not any help any more. I woke up every day hurting and went to bed the exact same way.
After several other Doctors reviewing my records and turning me down, God intervened and Dr. William Lestini took my case. He explained what my problem was and let me know up front that I would have a rough road to travel due to pain medications and muscle weakness in my back. I wish that Dr. Lestini could have done my first surgery as I know all the years of suffering I went through could have been prevented. I felt at peace with Dr. Lestini and trusted him completely.
The night before my surgery, Dr. Lestini called me to find out if I had any questions or concerns. This was a shock because I have never had a Doctor call me before any procedure. To add to my surprise and comfort, Dr. Lestini came before I was taken down to the Operating Room and he asked me if he could pray with me. That meant so very much to me and my family. I knew I would be okay! When I woke up in recovery after five hours of surgery, I had the feeling back in the toes on my right foot.
My recovery has been one day at a time, but if it wasn't for Dr. Lestini I would still be hurting 24/7. I owe him a lot, more than words can say. I do know that he is a great and caring doctor, a spiritual man, and my friend for life."
